Bacteriostatic Water is sterile non-pyrogenic water that contains 0.9% benzyl alcohol (9mg/mL), which is added as a bacteriostatic preservative. This preparation of sterile water and benzyl alcohol (BnOH) allows repeated withdrawals to be made from a single 10mL vial.
It’s purpose is to inhibit the growth of most types of bacteria, allowing the reconstituted compound for a longer shelf life before degradation.
This bacteriostatic water has a pH level of 5.7 (4.5 to 7.0) and is safely packaged in a sterile glass vial with rubber stopper for multiple use.
